Central Heating Problems

THE MOST COMMON CENTRAL HEATING PROBLEMS

Here at Active Heating we about helping people with their central heating problems, advising over the phone, giving advice on what should be covered in a boiler replacement quote or answering questions on specific forums, it’s one of the reasons we set up our ActiveCare scheme.

Below are some of the more common central heating problems people ask us about, we’ll be adding more on a regular basis

Do I need to replace my boiler, a part is obsolete?

Sometimes national energy companies no longer keep parts in THEIR stock and prefer not to support the boiler.Call the boiler Manufacturer (google for the number) and ask for Spares. If they say some parts are obsolete, press them to be specific about the part you need.. If it still stocked, ask for the part number. The Trade supplier can use the part number to buy it in for you. Ask if the gas valve and ignition parts are obselete; if they are you know your boiler has a limited life, possibly under a year.

Would I save money by having a modern, condensing boiler?

There is a balance of costs. We advise that the initial outlay outweighs the savings per year on fuel. Yes new, condensing boilers are over 90% efficient on fuel burnt but it takes many years to get back the £2000-£3000 initial outlay.

Why are power flushes included in a boiler installation. Am I being ripped off?

A flush is vital. If the old system water runs through a new boiler, the internal parts and heating controls (pumps and valves) will receive undue wear and tear from sludge, debris, iron filings etc. If your boiler breaks down within the warranty period the first thing the manufacturer will do is sample the water. If it isn’t clearish, then the cost of fixing the boiler will be yours. We do a flush at the beginning of a boiler installation and a hot and cold flush prior to the final commissioning.
